Not for the faint of heart. Great for opening docs that native Mac programs won't touch, but creating anything but basic documents requires skill and technical knowledge the average (or even above average) user isn't likely to have.
As a Ex-PayPal user who will never, ever open another PayPal account I have no chance to 'donate' to upgrade to the new version. Very frustrating and very, very short-sighted of NeoOffice. So now I'm looking for an alternative to NeoOffice.

Important Note: NeoOffice 3.3 is now Donationware and requires a donation of at least $10 within the last year to be downloaded. However, version 3.2.1 which supports up to Lion OS X 10.7 is still free to use.

At the very basic level, NeoOffice and friends give you some degree of compatibility with Microsoft Office files (Mac or Windows) and a somewhat familiar interface, all for less than the price of Microsoft’s latest Office.
NeoOffice is a great substitute for Microsoft Office. In fact, in some ways, it improves on the original. Unlike Microsoft Office, where each application installs its own icon to the dock, NeoOffice presents itself as a single application, from which you can start any of the five modules, Writer (Word); Calc (Excel); Impress (PowerPoint); Base (Access); and a separate drawing tool, Draw.
